About me and my Family

Hello there,
My name is AnnMarie.  I became a runner in 1984, when I went out for Track and Field in High School.  I ran "long distance" for my High School, you know the 800m, 1600m and 3200m races.  I really didn't like that 3200!

I went to college and after an ex-boyfriend commented on my weight, decided I would join the track team at the University.  This was awesome.  I learned a lot from the ladies I ran with.  Like what off season training was, LOL!  I specialized in the 1000m run indoor and the 800 and 1500 outdoor.

After college, a lot of my team mates started running marathons.  I thought they were crazy, until one day I got a post card in the mail from Team In Training.  (Back then was for Leukemia, now Leukemia and Lymphoma.)  They were going to Hawaii and I wanted to go there too.  This started my interest in longer running.

In 1995, I ran my first marathon in Honolulu, HI.  I didn't train very well for it, but finished in 5:28.  In 1996, I met my husband.  I moved, ran a little here and there, but nothing too far or very long.  In 1999, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  I had my thyroid removed and I started running again.  I trained for the 2000 Disney Marathon.  I trained hard for that one, and finished in 4:08.

We were married on November 14, 1998.  We bought our first (only) house, in February of 2001.  We had our first baby in May of 2001, second baby in April of 2003 and baby number 3 was born in December 2006.

As you will read, I love being a mom and running my kids to their activities.  That is where my title for this blog came from.  Now that my babies are able to do stuff on their own, I am finding more time for me to run again.

Happy reading.
AnnMarie
